It’s funny to think of how grown-up I’ve been feeling lately. Tonight, my old roommate Audra, who also lives here in DC, came over for dinner. We made gobbleritos, since we’ve all had a hankering for them since a) there’s no mad mex anywhere in the DC metro area and b) they’re only sold in November, and well, it isn’t November yet. Basically, it’s Thanksgiving dinner and a burrito. I know it sounds weird, but it’s SO GOOD.
SO GOOD.
Anyway, this all ties in because as Eric and I were picking up the apartment (because it’s always in a state of slight chaos) I was struck by the thought that this is home. This is our home – we pay the rent on our own every month. That new TV, laptop, camera, PS3? I earned those. Those pillows? And tablecloth? We picked those out together. For the past four years, we’ve been dreaming about starting a life together, and guess what? It’s happening now. It’s really happening and I can’t express how happy it makes me. It’s amazing.
So, now that we’ve been living here since July and it’s now OCTOBER (how is that possible) and things are now pretty much put away and almost decorated how we want it (not magazine-worthy, to be sure. We’re working on it…) I thought I’d share some pictures with you all.
This is what you will see when you walk into the door:
Then, our dining room:
The kitchen:
And our bedroom, which ended up more Ohio State themed than we anticipated. But it was the only fabric we could agree on in our budget, and hey. A girl’s gotta have a little pride, right?:
A shot of the headboard, which WE MADE OURSELVES:
So there you have it.
It’s obviously not all put together yet – we still plan on getting more bookshelves (because we have several more boxes of books sitting in the corner!), hanging some more pictures, and making it a little more “us”. We probably won’t do any more painting – we have to prime it all before we move out, and we haven’t decided whether or not we’ll stay here for more than a year. But at some point we’ll be getting a new couch, since our futon is broken. And a TV stand, since the TV is sitting on our coffee table! Eric’s desk is also going to be moved, once he gets a wireless card for his desktop.
Even so, it’s a start, it’s ours, and it’s home. I’ve had so much fun doing it so far, and I’m excited to see how it progresses.

Yay, congrats! I love the words above your kitchen doorway, such a great idea. First apartments together are exciting, picking out decorations can actually bring you closer together as you find out more about each other. Time has flown this year though, I agree. And dinner parties are fun, we have one once a month to eat and play games with friends.

I like your home. Very cozy. Though I think my favorite part is what is standing on the window sill in the living room. Thanks for the visit, & I will be visiting here more often.
